Supporting World Mental Health Day 2017

As organisers of Naidex we are proud to be supporting this year's World Mental Health Day on October 10th, and are dedicated to being Disability Confident Committed employers.

Mental health problems can affect anyone, with one in four adults and one in 10 children experiencing mental illness (NHS England). In fact, it affects more people every year than cancer or heart disease but unfortunately is a condition that many still don’t understand.

According to Mental Health UK, the impact of poor mental health can be reduced with early intervention and support. Events like World Mental Health Day strive to bring as much exposure and attention as possible to such conditions, in the hope that sufferers will feel more confident and able to come forward for help.

Living with a mental health problem can often have an impact on day to day life, making things that others might not think about more challenging. This year’s World Mental Health Day aims to focus on workplace wellbeing, offering advice to employees and employers on how to stay well at work.

This ranges from reclaiming your lunch break, achieving the crucial work-life balance and the ‘five essential steps’ to improving wellbeing on a daily basis.

Last month, we were delighted to be certified as a Disability Confident Committed employer.

Responsibilities attached to this title include ensuring the recruitment process is inclusive and accessible, offering an interview to a person with disabilities and anticipating and providing reasonable adjustments as required. Existing employees who acquire a disability or long term health condition whilst in work will also be supported, enabling them to stay in employment.
